Dear Julie, My novel, I’m the Girl, is loosely inspired by the Epstein case. It follows Georgia, a sixteen-year-old who is determined to escape poverty by securing a job at Aspera, an exclusive resort known for hiring beautiful young girls—“Aspera Girls”—to cater to its elite membership.
You have always been such a vocal supporter of Georgia's journey and I love and am comforted by the thought of girls like her maybe wandering to this side of the internet and seeing that. That there are Emily Slaneys of the world committing to that belief in them and making everything a little better in doing so. THANK YOU always for that.
You know I've been thinking today that schools really really need to provide education on these matters, the way they do sex education and drug talks etc. They need to take everything a step further now and provide education on grooming, predators, cohesion, gas lighting, love bombing etc. For all students too as anyone can be groomed (which goes for adults too but lets start tackling things where we can and hopefully progress) And also mental health, ocd (what it actually is rather than what a lot of people think it is), eating disorders, panic and anxiety, self harm, intrusive thoughts, body dismorphia, depression etc. People have so much to learn. Knowledge is a weapon, a defence, a coping mechanism and an outstretched hand to help someone else. And hopefully we can create a self aware world where victims/survivors get empathy & support & understanding.
And finally I just wanted to share with you that the one phrase/sentence from I'm the Girl that has haunted me & stuck with me & gut punched me is just two powerful words that say so much: "that bruise".
They absolutely should and the reason they should is why parents like Julie will do their best not to let it happen--education, knowledge, like you said: it's power. And the more we all realize what a raw deal we're getting the more we'll protest and fight these oppressive systems. Ignorance is their only defense. And it's TERRIBLE. There is so much pain and heartbreak we could prevent by approaching things things so reasonably. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
And 😭 it means a lot that line made an impression--it was difficult to write.
Right on! Thank you for responding and standing up to parents like Julie who believe that their fear should dictate what my child can feel, think, and experience. Moms for Liberty and their ilk are anti-freedom, I’m so exhausted by their bullshit.
I’m sorry this happened. Your response was perfect. 🖤
😭 thank you 💖 not the way you wanna find yourself in the times!!! Lmao
Sometimes I wonder what the hell some people think young adults are exposed to (or not exposed to). Writing is usually a mirror, reflective and blunt.
Georgia's victory is massive. Massive. Massive!
I'm too annoyed, astounded & disappointed to write/ think anymore at this moment. Maybe later.
Your letter was amazing by the way. So much respect 💖

Well articulated. Keep writing stories that make the Julies of the world squirm uncomfortably. Brava! So proud of you!
Thanks for being a Mom that was never a Julie ❤

ok but I would LOVE to see them try to go up against your kids in particular... they would not last but a minute
