On April 16th, I’m the Girl arrives in paperback and with it, certain ends I’ve circled in this newsletter a while. The end of: an eight-book era I’ve come to think of as ‘The Girls,’ the conversation those particular stories started with one another in 2008, my participation in a specific category of fiction1 and, with that, my final Wednesday Book. To mark the occasion and as thanks for your support, I’ve once again teamed up with one of my favorite indie bookstores to show everyone who preorders I’m the Girl some love and gratitude:
If you preorder your paperback from the wonderful Pocket Books Shop2 , here are the gifts you can receive in return:
💧 1. An annotated version of Greetings from Sunny Los Angeles
While the paperback will include the epilogue to Sadie in print for the first time,3 everyone who preorders will receive a digital annotated edition of the story featuring handwritten notes, comments, trivia, and drawings by me.4 A link to a downloadable pdf will be emailed the week of publication. This is the final time the annotation will be made publicly available to readers. I will not share it in any form following the paperback’s publication.
💧 2. Two exclusive art prints and a signed book plate
While supplies last, Pocket Books will ship copies of the paperback with the stunning, sapphic, Georgia + Nora print illustrated by the inimitably talented Jenifer Prince, a Tell Me Who I’m Meant to Be print, and a signed book plate.5 If you missed previous opportunities to secure the Jenifer Prince print, this is your last chance. The prints and bookplate will be mailed on a first come, first serve basis and supplies are limited.
💧 3. A free Sadie audiobook
The first 50 readers who preorder will receive a Libro.fm code for a free audiobook of Sadie. I’m the Girl is a spiritual successor to Sadie with connections to its universe. If you’ve not yet experienced Sadie in audio, it’s an Odyssey and Audie award-winning full-cast extravaganza that is truly a testament to its format. Bonus: the audio edition also includes Greetings, as read by the voice of West. Thanks to Libro.fm and Wednesday Books for coordinating to make this possible.
💧 4. Plus a 15% discount off the paperback.
Sound like your thing? Here’s that link again. (And please feel free to share this with anyone you think would like to know about it!)
While Pocket Books and I have ensured all readers who preorder will receive something, the sooner you take advantage of this opportunity the more likely you are to receive everything. Regardless, preorders must be placed by April 15th, 11:59 pm to claim any and/or all gifts and the 15% discount. Pocket ships nationwide. For readers outside of the US, Pocket ships internationally, though the customer’s cost of shipping will be variable, according to their location.
We’re also organizing a free virtual event for April 11th, which I suspect will be the last of its kind and focus for a long time to come—stay tuned for more details and how to register because we really hope to see you there.
Thank you, Austin, Jess, and Julie at Pocket for working with me to make this paperback outing extra special.
Publishing I’m the Girl was a defining experience for me as an author that I will one day share in full, and one I will explore a little more leading up to its paperback release. At the center of that experience are the readers who have seen my work through what it was, is, and will become. Thank you. Your readership has, and continues to be, one of the great privileges of my career.
Hidden in the mountains, beyond the poverty and hardship that defines sixteen-year-old Georgia Avis’s life, lies Aspera, an exclusive members-only resort catering to the nation’s wealthy elite. Aspera makes beautiful promises to beautiful girls willing to serve and keep its secrets, and Georgia’s dream comes true when she’s offered the chance to be one of them. But behind every dream lurks a nightmare, and the grisly discovery of murdered thirteen-year-old Ashley James points to a killer amongst Aspera’s powerful membership. When Ashley’s older sister and Georgia’s longtime crush, Nora, enlists Georgia’s help proving it, the two will discover that when power, money, and beauty rule, it’s not always a matter of who is guilty, but who is guiltiest. As the killer closes in, Georgia must reconcile her heart’s desires with what it really takes to survive.

If not an end, a long hiatus.
icymi: I’m the Girl and Sadie are set in the same universe and share some connecting threads. Greetings from Sunny Los Angeles follows West in the years since his podcast, and serves as a prelude to Georgia’s story.
An online, text-only version of this annotation was briefly made available to newsletter subscribers in the past, but this version will be yours to keep and has been expanded with exclusive annotations and bonus content.
Oh I so wanted that annotated handwritten note's, doodles & trivia. Alas twas not to be...shipping is crazy expensive and unfortunately I just can't 😭😭😭. Nevermind. I think it's an amazing bundle you're rewarding fans with 💖. Excited to see life after the girls & to keep reading about your life, thoughts & journey in this newsletter. The girls will always be there for the readers who need them, thank you so much for sharing them (and everything else) with us. You are an inspiration 😘
Excited for your next chapter (awful, clumsy writerly pun intended...don't hold it against me!). And excited for a virtual event! Thanks for all the work you do to court and keep readers and make our experience feel special. It's such a reflection of the intention behind every word you write, every action you take.
