Oh I love your annotated offerings 💖💖💖 please do keep sharing anything you wish to.
I have re-read The Project a number of times so I look forward to re-reading it with the angle you suggest 😁 my paperback edition should be here Friday so I look forward to my bonus chapter!
The phrase "cult daddy" makes me feel deeply uncomfortable which is how it should I guess 😖. Also yes I regarded Paul from SVO as predatory (there are so so many variations of a predator that people need to be aware of ☹) and that this may have been a stepping stone to Lev. (Also as a side note, I often wondered about Eddie Reeves Father in Fall for Anything - Culler Evans is clearly predatory and manipulative, but what of her father? There are certain references & between the lines stuff that is said about her mother's relationship & age difference & not ever having really lived without him that feel like red flags to me. But I could be way off. And obviously you don't have to address this 😊 I'm just writing thoughts aloud)
Finally (trying to be careful with what I say so I don't spoil anything) I'd say a gift from Bea, but I can totally understand why it is a question to Lo.
Thank you so much for reading them! I'm so thrilled they're accepted in the spirit they're shared and it always means a lot to get such thoughtful feedback. And THANK YOU for getting the paperback edition!! That makes me so happy!
Cult Daddy is def... something it's very okay to feel uncomfy about! That was a side of Lev (his sex appeal) I had to recognize to write. I don't know if this makes sense and it could be a newsletter in itself, but there is the perception of Lev the characters carry and their perspectives are so intense to occupy, I lean on the sort of grim humor that allows you to keep from veering too far into the idea of the man to uphold the reality and subtext and keep my perspective in line. It kept him in check if that makes sense in terms of my portrayal. I think he'd HATE to be referred to that way so I do :) :) :) And I've started incorporating it publicly because I like how the text ultimately undercuts the notion.
That is a GREAT question about Eddie. I'm !!! about it because you're the first reader to pick up on a way it can frame the text and relate that back to me. How cool! Eddie does not really recognize the red flags of Culler because it is closer to her normal than it isn't. That said while I think Eddie's father was probably very self-involved, I do not see him as a Culler. Like I feel like maybe Culler extended the more problematic aspects of Eddie's father's life into something that was undeniably problematic, whereas her father--I can't say he's not problematic but he's not Culler. I also hope THAT makes sense!
Oh yes, I totally understand the need to view Lev through multiple lenses in order to portray him through different character's perspectives, and seduction is one of his techniques after all, and the need for humour to create a barrier too 😊. And yes, he would so hate to be called that 🤣👏👏👏.
Thank you for answering the Fall for Anything question 💖 and yes I agree that Eddie's father & Culler are definitely not the same at all, it was just something that stuck on me in my re-reads and made me wonder (which of course is one of the best thing a book can make you do 😊.)
I love that you wondered it and that you asked! Fall for Anything is the one that slips through the cracks a lot... it always means a lot to know it's out there being read and being read so thoughtfully :)
THANK YOU, thank you for reading it and believing in it enough to feature it! It's always an honor to make a display table. I know those spots are limited. I really appreciate it and I'm so glad it earned it. Thank you for your continued generosity to my work :)
