Hurrah for breaking grammatical rules! You keep that em-dash exactly where you have it. Broken sentence structure can be so powerful, as can misused punctuation. Trip the reader up, slow them down, make them stumble over sentences that cause emotional reactions.

I just want to say that I never feel owed a comment (not that you were suggesting this, of course!!!) but I always am delighted and appreciative of them, and that said, and especially given your current circumstances, thank you for taking the time to make one here--but more than that, I hope you're prioritizing and being gentle with yourself as you get through your things and that you see the other side of it all soon. Thank you for taking the time during this time to be so encouraging and to participate in the comments. It really does mean a lot because it is an extraordinarily kind and generous use of your time, especially when we all have stuff going on and sometimes that stuff turns out more taxing and difficult than others. I so relate to this. Having gone through much of the same over the past year, I can honestly say that there is immense freedom in being able to experiment in your craft without boundaries again.
