Happy new year, Courtney! I’ve read about 125 books, drafted a rom com during NaNoWriMo, and edited the ever loving heck out of a YA fantasy I plan to query in the new year.
I have read 31 books this year, nearly all of which were re-reads of my favourite books & authors.
I watch around 150 films & TV shows (both new & rewatches) highlights being: Everything Everywhere All at once, Euphoria, Yellow Jackets, Gomorrah, The Sinner, Dare Me, Drag race UK & Canada's Drag Race.
Music: ah I love Mitski! So definitely Laurel Hell, Glitch Princess by Yeule and Hold the Girl by Rina Sawayama. Also Lana Del Rey's new song did you know there's a tunnel under ocean boulevard.
Video games: Life is Strange True Colours & it's add on Wavelengths.
As for a question 🤔... favourite thing you were brought or gifted this year, and your favourite gift to give?
Happy New Year (in advance), I'm excited to enter your new era 🥰
You know, I started Dare Me when it came out and I never completed it--not because I didn't like it but because it just fell of my radar. This comment makes me want to return to it. I also started Life is Strange True Colors and couldn't bring myself to finish it because of what happened to the brother but maybe I should give it an earnest go and commit to the emotional pain 😂
SO READY FOR THE NEW LANA!!!
Oh gosh, my mom treated me to some fancy pins from the Leonard Cohen exhibit at an art gallery to commemorate our visit and that meant a lot to me. And I love to take people out for dinner! :)
Happy happy new year, Emily! It's been great to have you around!
Yes, life is strange is great at destroying emotions 😭. The first one is still my all time favourite, (and that destroyed me.) And if you can you should play Steph's story in wavelengths (it also addresses the final decision you make in the first life is strange). I do have a copy of the quarry too, but haven't got around to it.
You should go back to Dare Me 😁 I think the actress who portrays Beth does an amazing job. I'm just so sad Netflix dropped it before the story got finished ☹ having read the book (many time) and being able to see where everything was going... 😭.
I read my typical book number this year but tried to seek out a wider range of books that I might not have reached for in the past. I read across 16 genres/subgenres and discovered more new authors than I ever have before. That and completing a few writing projects might be part of why my movie count was surprisingly low for me? It was a year for favorite tv show rewacthes, really. Reading these end of year reflections gets me so excited about all of the art waiting to be discovered in 2023!
I've also tried to diversify my reading this year and I find an e-reader has really helped with that. I love that you've added more new voices to your shelves! And congratulations on completing your writing projects. I feel like there's a little bit of a correlation between my output and how much movies I can watch too so 👀 maybe I don't want to aim for more movies in the new year.
My year in review: I read about 60 books this year, which is about average for me but also about three times as many as I managed last year. My favorites (that came out this year AND that I read this year) are probably When Women Were Dragons, The Dead Romantics, The Verifiers, and Funny You Should Ask (my favorite-but-I-read-it-last-year is Book Lovers). I also wrote two books, which is extremely above average for me. According to Letterboxd I've watched 161 movies this year, but to be fair I think the majority were rewatches. My most-watched actor is Sandra Bullock, which is more accurate than any of the other (all accurate) data I have. My favorite movies of the year are probably The Batman and Prey. Also The Lost City, which is perfect by every metric. My favorite coffee is Stumptown's Hair Bender, and I probably drink about 1200 cups a year. The end!
asfasdf the stealth way you slipped in that you wrote two books in there! YESSSSSSS ANNIKA!!!
I have been really debating letterrboxd to help encourage my viewing rate but I've been on the fence. I didn't know it did tallies like that 👀 we're neck and neck in the coffee consumption 😂
I really love letterboxd, and although I think the stats are a "pro" feature, it only costs $20/year and is kind of the perfect little luxury (Will has it too, so as a bonus you can read all of his reviews of werewolf movies).

!!!! I am so excited for what's ahead of you! Congrats on completing your manuscript and getting the other ready to go!!!

me reading your comment: I should join and pay for letterboxd
Oh no, it’s happened. I’ve become a shill for capitalism.
